Area History

A trek into the colorful history of Huntsman Springs naturally begins at its East Idahoan origins. It was here that French fur trappers and traders were attracted to this magnificent Teton Valley region shortly after Lewis and Clark wrote about their epic journey in the early 1800’s. An abundance of lush farming and range land brought the first settlers to establish Driggs in 1884, helping it become the first agricultural town in the valley.  Out of the pioneers’ great foresight irrigation canals were built, crops were planted and the first store opened its doors on the Huntsman property in 1887, and the town soon flourished.

Tales of the unparalleled natural beauty and abundant wildlife quickly spread East, inspiring the pioneers who followed in their footsteps. They brought with them an inherent respect for the land, a solid work ethic and a strong sense of family values.  Future settlers would foster these same values while enjoying all the joys of endless outdoor activities such as angling, skiing and hiking.

Today, the Teton Valley is a magnet for adventure.  This Yellowstone-Teton territory offers the same excitement that the early settlers enjoyed in its pristine and uncompromised foliage, snow-capped mountains, raging waterfalls, soothing rivers and lakes.  It seems as appreciated by its human residents as its wildlife.

Huntsman Springs remains true to the history of these people and their land, by preserving and perpetuating a meaningful way of life.  Lives remain centered on family, community, character and a belief in conserving the natural beauty that graces the valley.  Harmony and balance are carefully embraced with all things honorable, genuine and wholesome.  The path hasn’t been worn; it’s only grown richer in tradition.
