A fly fishing match made in heaven
Back in 1919 Alma Kunz could never have imagined that his budding Idaho fly fishing guide business would endure over 90 years and become a destination for thousands of avid fly fishermen every year.
Born in Teton Valley in 1901, Alma began his guiding legacy at the age of 18. An aptitude for fishing and hunting earned him a reputation of being an outdoor expert. So when a wealthy gentleman from the east came to Idaho looking for someone to help him crack the code on the Teton River, he was directed to Alma. The rest, as they say, is history.
Randy Berry and John Pehrson each started guiding for Alma in the 1950′s. Under Alma’s expert tutelage, the boys gained a knowledge of guiding and fly fishing that was second to none. When Randy and John bought Alma’s Lodge in 1973, the Lodge had become a leader of fly fishing of national acclaim. Randy Berry and John Pehrson owned and operated Teton Valley Lodge, as partners, for over 33 years. Over those years, they guided thousands of clients to unsurpassed fly fishing experiences on the Teton, South Fork of the Snake, and Henry’s Fork of the Snake Rivers. In 2003, John Pehrson sold his half of Teton Valley Lodge to Randy Berry’s two sons, Matt and Brian. Randy and his boys now own the lodge and continue to provide the finest fly fishing float trips and overall fly fishing experience in the world.
John Pehrson has joined the team of Huntsman Springs as their fly fishing coordinator. John is also a licensed guide for Teton Valley Lodge. We are excited to announce that Teton Valley Lodge is the designated outfitter for Huntsman Springs. This arrangement provides all Huntsman Springs members and guests the opportunity to fly fish the incredible rivers in Southeast Idaho. In addition, John will introduce you to all of the world class ponds at Huntsman Springs. Rainbow, Cutthroat and Brooke Trout up to 12 pounds cruise for natural insects throughout the day. John offers fly casting lessons on the ponds as well as a full fly fishing experience.
